I finally got around to uploading my Spring Game pictures. Like I said before, I didn’t realize that I hadn’t taken pics of TP (on the field) until I saw he was done for the day. Oops. I got him on the sideline.

And that leads me to my new camera. It has a nice zoom. I was in the C-deck on the visitor side of the field. Below is one of my shots, with just a little bit of zoom. You can see how how far away I was:

And here is one of my zoomed in pics of TP on the opposite sideline:

Not bad, huh? View the full gallery here. Regular appearances from Brew Crew members.

Read on for news on Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Big Ten selections.

We already learned that Terrelle is Phil Steele’s pick for 1st team All-American QB. So given that knowledge, we pretty much already knew he’d be the 1st team All-Big Ten. But those picks were released as well and will probably garner a lot of chatter amongst other Big Ten fans.

Conference media/coaches won’t see things the same way. I can almost guarantee it. TP was only honorable mention at the end of last season, and the conference/media picks for All-Big Ten honors were serverely lacking in Buckeyes. (It’s a wonder Jim Tressel continues to dominate the conference with so many below average players…) Mark it down: Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi and Wisconsin’s Scott Tolzien will be some version of 1st team and 2nd team All-Big Ten; ahead of TP. Just watch! There will also be a small fraction of Buckeyes, in general, on those lists as well. It’s just the way it is. Then those slacker Buckeyes will go on to win the conference…again. And Jim Tressel will be passed over for Coach of the Year…again. Same story, different year.

Hey look! A new post! Sorry there hasn’t been a lot to report with the team doing their own thing with 7-on-7′s ahead of the start of Fall Camp, August 10th.

The Plain Dealer did a Q&A with Mike Brewster, fellow Brew Crewer and starting Center for the team. In it, he gives us a little update on how Terrelle is looking this summer.

PD: Why do you say your technique was terrible?

Pretty much last year, me and Terrelle were playing off athletic instinct and God-given athletic ability. This year he’s working on his throwing and I’m working on my knowledge and lifting and my hands and my technique. I’m excited to see what I can do when I know what I’m doing.

I’ve always loved the work ethic of the team; from the Frosh all the way through the 5 year seniors.

PD: What kind of improvements did you see in spring practice?

MB: I know Terrelle was working hard on his throwing and his reads and he has definitely come a long way. He ran a 4.3 this spring, so he has to be one of the fastest quarterbacks in the country at 235 [pounds].

Yes, folks. A 4.3 40 yd dash.

PD: Do things feel different for your class because you’re sophomores now?

MB: I feel like we’re a bunch of guys who are on the edge and about to break out. We’ll see. Once we get into the fire, we’ll see how we’re going to compete next year.

People say Terrelle can’t throw. I don’t really read the Internet, but some people sent me stuff of people talking me down, and I put it on a word document just to remind myself. If I feel tired today, go read that guy saying you’re not any good. I feel like we all have something to prove.

Standing up for his quarterback. And doing so without tears. Nice little interview. Very impressed with Brew.

In any case, ESPN.com came out with their Big Ten All Freshman team and TP, along with 2 of his classmates made the cut.

Terrelle is the QB rep while Mike Brewster is the All Frosh center and embattled Nathan Williams is a defensive line selection.

I’m happy with these selections. Those guys were clearly the freshmen who contributed the most on the field. I know that most places don’t do All Sophomore teams, but it would be interesting to see how much progress would be made for the Brew Crew after another year in the program.

TP wasn’t named to the Sporting News All Freshman Team. Baylor’s QB Robert Griffin was the QB representative. As I said yesterday, I would be perfectly ok with Griffin getting it, and I am. Here’s why: TP didn’t get his 1st start until the 4th game of the season. I honestly believe that if he take all the 1st team snaps through fall camp and been the starter from the jump, like Griffin, we’d be seeing his name there instead. So no beef with that list. Robert Griffin is a baller. Next year, Terrelle will be in the Heisman and All-American discussion. I’ll gladly take that over some Frosh of the Year honors.

However, while TP2 was left off of this list, his center, Mike Brewster did make the All-Freshman team. Congrats to Mike!

Oh, and while you’re checking out the All-Freshman team, why not read the comments. TP isn’t even on the list and there’s a bunch of people arguing over whether or not he’s any good. Pretty comical. He’ll show them all soon enough.

Another day, and the OSU quarterback picture isn’t any clearer. Not that any of us should really be all that surprised. This is Jim Tressel we’re talking about. It’s hard to get a straight answer out of that man, God love him.

So, JT gave another team update today on his radio show as well as in a media session. Aside from Beanie being out for a 3rd game, Tressel still hasn’t chosen a starting QB for Saturday’s matchup against Troy. He said that today’s practice, and other factors such as game-beginning field position will be part of the decision making process. Always keeping us guessing.

Expanding on the topic, Tressel makes it known that he doesn’t really want a 2 quarterback system. Ideally, he wants 1 QB to stand up and be “the guy”. I don’t know what y’all think, but given our 2 QBs, it seems to me that only one of them seems to have the swagger to stand up and take the job.

Having said all that, while I think TP should start, I feel like Boeckman will be the starter this week. Then the 2 will split the snaps throughout the game. Tressel knows how complicated this situation is. And he, more than anyone, knowns how fragile Todd’s psyche is nowadays. (Is it me, or did he not look like he was going to cry during the USC game?) Once Coach goes with Terrelle as the starter, he knows that he cannot go back to Todd even with competition in practice every day. I think Todd continues to start for a while, but his playtime will dramatically decrease as TP is groomed more and more for the starting job. When the staff feels comfortable “giving him the keys”, they will. After that, there is no turning back!

TP isn’t the only Brew Crew member who may get the call this weekend. O-lineman JB Shugarts and Mike Brewster are also in the mix. I like it. Competition only makes the team stronger. We all saw that the offensive line needs a makeover. Here’s to hoping these frosh can make an impact that helps the team improve.

Brew Crewin’: Posey Takes the 400 State Title
It’s time for another random post while I continue my search for the perfect WordPress theme for TPO. The bad news is I haven’t found one I’m in love with. The good news is that I have a few candidates I can tweek to my liking.

Now onto the Brew Crew madness. A week before he moved to Buckeye City, DeVier Posey played the role of workhorse for Cincy’s LaSalle High School. He contested the finals of the 100, 200, and 400 at the D1 state track meet. That makes me tired just thinking about all that. He turned in 4th place performances in the 100 and 200, but took the gold in the 400. Way to go, brah!

We all know the local news media loves them some Buckeyes, even before they step foot on campus, and it was no different during DP’s title run at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. I capped some of the highlights and interviews and put together a little somepin’ somepin’ for y’all. Behold:

And how do I connect this to Terrelle? Other than the fact that DeVier is his classmate? Oh that’s easy! Not only are they BFFs, they are also roommates. Guys hate when you use the BFF term in reference to their friendships, but it was either that or forcing in the term bromance, so BFF it was. Whatever. You love it.
