Kneejerk: Week 12, The Game

Another 10 win season. Another outright Big Ten Championship. A 6th straight win over TTUN. Ho Hum. A day in the life of Jim Tressel. I didn’t care how they did it, I just wanted a win. Thanks to the staff and team for giving that to me; beating Michigan 21-10 in their house.
As is always the case in Buckeye Nation, many are grumbling about the offense. They do this whether we win or lose. Doesn’t matter. They can never be happy. They want a “sexy” offense here at Ohio State and are the exact “miserable fans” Tress referenced earlier this season. FWIW, he shouldn’t have apologized for that comment. He was absolutely right and it’s sad. This team just won an outright Big Ten Championship with a road win over their hated rivals and people are bitching. It’s embarrassing. These are the fans that give OSU fans a bad name. No one’s saying everything is perfect (it is not), but damn. Calm down and enjoy the win already!
Here are some of my thoughts, IN A NUTSHELL:
- TP threw a pick today, but he still made great decisions overall, taking what the defense gave him, and shredding them with his legs.
- Wish he and Posey could have connected on the deep passes, but it is what it is. They’ll work it out and that’ll be a lethal combo next season.
- The defense was back to its normal dominant self. I predicted UM would move the ball early on, and they did. But they pretty much got shut down after halftime.
- I was wrong about Michigan taking an early lead thanks to Forcier hand delivering us a touchdown.
- As I said on Twitter: TP’s Purdue game = Forcier’s OSU game. It’s too bad that he has to wait until the 2010 season to redeem himself. TP only had to wait 1 week.
- The Oline, led by Justin Boren, was in beast mode today. Anytime you can string together 4-5 games with 225+ yards rushing, you’re line is doing pretty well
- Speaking of Boren, he needs a tattoo that says “Those who transfer will be champions”. It should look like this. That is all.
- UM had quite a few recruits on the hand; several that are considering both schools. I wonder what they thought…
- Seriously, how dope were those unis? I loved, loved, loved those socks. Check out how sweet TP looked.
- The pink Buckeye leaf sticker in honor of Stefanie Spielman was good to see. I also appreciated the respect the announcers showed for the family during the broadcast.
- Thoma has been a whipping boy lately for his punting performances. Appears that he knows it and apologizes.
- Brian Rolle was great today. As was Johnny Simon. Great players step up during The Game. And they did.
- It was quite fun to watch RichRod’s reactions after things went wrong for his team. Considering few things ever go right, he was quite entertaining today.
- I’m going to savor this win knowing that Michigan won’t even have a chance to beat Ohio State for yet another year. I have friends who either attend or are Wolverine fans, so this will be fun!
TP finished 9/17 for 67 yards passing w/ 1 TD and 1 INT. He added 74 yards rushing to go along with Brandon Saine’s 84 and Boom Herron’s 96. That is total rushing domination right there. When you rack up that many yards on the ground you don’t need to pass much.
AROUND THE REST OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL:
Lot of interesting finals today in college football. Didn’t think Northwestern would beat Wisky, but they did. What was a dead even game in the 1st half between Sparty and PSU turned into a butt-whooping! Was not at all surprised UCONN beat Notre Dame. Very exciting game! Was this the end of the Charlie Weis era? I am ecstatic that Ole Miss pulled out the win against LSU. LSU has no quality wins and still sits in the top 10. Ole Miss fixed that for us. I can’t believe Miles’ clock mgt is that bad.
