Kneejerk: Week 2, USC
That was a tough one! If you weren’t there, I’m not sure you could tell from TV or not, but the ‘Shoe was rockin’! Everyone around me was saying how they’d never seen the crowd so alive and pumped! < sarcasm >Surprising considering the national media said everyone in Buckeye land had conceded defeat before the game even started < /sarcasm>
I don’t know where those people were, but everyone in the ‘Shoe thought the Buckeyes could win, even if everyone else in the college football world believed.
This loss is on the offense and the coaching staff. The defense did its job over and over again. They needed the offense to take advantage of all those defensive stops and put some points on the board. Ohio State must stop settling for field goals when they are in the redzone. That 1st and goal on the 3 should have been a TD, and that would have been ballgame.
So, here’s a rundown of my thoughts:
- I don’t know whose idea it was, but I’m pissed that I cannot get cell phone service in the ‘Shoe. I’m not alone, either.
- The run-Boom-up-the-middle play needs to disappear from the playbook. Boom is not Beanie. That’s a Beanie-type back play
- I hope those Oline recruits that were in town see the opportunity that is before them. Seantrel, buddy. You could start here next year. Keep that in mind.
- Not gonna lie, when TP threw that INT in the first drive, I thought it was an omen of how the game would play out. Glad I was wrong.
- Did we throw to any TE’s today? Didn’t think so. Bummer.
- We have got to cut down on all the stupid penalties; delay of game, false start, illegal formations… They are drive killers.
- TP missed a lot of reads tonight and just didn’t ever really look comfortable on the field. Not a good game. Couldn’t have picked a worse game for this to happen. Then again, leading up to the game, everyone said the game was on his shoulders. Whole lotta pressure. He’ll get better, but I don’t think he’ll be entering the draft after the 2010 season…
- I’m proud of the defense. No one thought they’d be able to do anything to the ‘SC offense and they contained them well.
- All in all, I’m proud of this team. Everyone had written off the Buckeyes before the kickoff and they were competitive and were thisclose to a win. They were supposed to be run out of their own stadium, but ended up leading most of the game. Just not at the times you want to be leading; at the end of the 4th quarter.
- I’ve never been one of those fans in the “we need an Offensive coordinator” camp…until tonight. The talent’s there. The support of Buckeye Nation is there. Everything’s in place except horrible gameplans and overly conservative play calling. Something has to change and quick! You just know Tress thought the defense would hold on and we’d win this game 15-10. He playcalled accordingly…
- Hat’s off to USC. Much like Texas, in the Fiesta Bowl, they drove down the field and scored when they needed to. I still feel OSU lost this more than ‘SC won it, but that’s neither here nor there.
