What Time Is It?
GAME TIME!
So the 2009 edition of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl is upon us. The game gets underway at 8PM (ET) tonight in Glendale’s University of Phoenix Stadium; which seats about 30K fewer people than the ‘Shoe. You can watch your Buckeyes, who will be wearing their road white jerseys, on FOX.
Ok, that’s all the ‘duh’ information for you. Now onto the real storyline of the game: the OSU lines. If the lines perform well, we will challenge the ‘Horns and could pull out a win. If our lines get dominated, we will lose. And yes, I really believe it’s that simple.
Alex Boone is going to need to keep the terror that is Brian Orakpo, out of our backfield and away from Terrelle. Our front 4 on defense, will need to create some pressure to confuse and throw Colt McCoy off his game. If the linemen allow UT’s Oline to get to the second level and tie up our LBs, we’re doomed.
While I would still like to see TP2 and Boeckman on the field at the same time, I’m not going to hold my breath. And while it’s hard for Tress to break tendencies — especially in a big games — I’m going to need him to show me something as an O-coordinator. We are so predictable on offense that it handicaps the line’s ability to execute. We need to put the unit in the best possible situation to create plays.
Lastly, while no one outside of the state of Ohio is giving the Bucks a chance, I am. I think we can win this game. But winning isn’t what I really care about tonight. I just want the team to look competitive and sharp on the national stage. If they lose after a strong and gutsy performance, to a team that should be in the title game, then fine. I just don’t want this team to be laughed off the field and clowned for the entire off-season again. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love and relish a win, but it’s not my #1 wish for the team tonight.
A significant percentage of this team is playing their final game in a Buckeye uniform. Time to step up and give those players a proper sendoff. Go Bucks!
