TP is Sporting News’ Big Ten Frosh of the Year

The Sporting News has released its 2008 Conference Awards. No one should be surprised to see Terrelle Pryor on the list as the Big Ten’s “Freshman of the Year”. That’s pretty much going to be a given no matter whose list it is.

Tomorrow, Sporting News will release its All-Freshman Team. The homer in me would absolutely put TP on there as a 1st teamer, but in another All-Freshman collection — released by Scout’s College Football News — he’s been listed as 2nd team, along with his center Mike Brewster. Not to take anything away from NC State’s signal caller, Russell Wilson, but I think being a starter on an Ohio State team who is constantly in the BCS discussion is more of an accomplishment. It’s a harder gig given the program’s high expectations, and he upheld the standard like a pro leading the team to a BCS bowl and conference co-championship. I wouldn’t have complained much if Baylor’s Robert Griffin got the nod, though. Dude’s legit as well. I just disagree with their selection of Wilson.

We’ll see tomorrow where Sporting News ranks TP’s freshman year performance. Stay tuned!
