Some Heisman Talk
Now that the 2008 Heisman Trophy has gone to Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, talk for next year’s Heisman has already started. The regular season is over and news is slow, so what did y’all expect?
It’s been mentioned all fall that our very own Terrelle Pryor should be in the conversation next season. And it’s not just coming from Buckeye Nation. National analysts have been bringing it up too. Case in point: Jesse Palmer and Andre Ware, both on ESPN’s College Football Live. Ware, although a massive tool, has called a couple of Buckeye games and seemed genuinely impressed by TP2′s play.
And now College Football News (Scout.com) has released its list of the Top 25 Heisman Contenders for 2009. The list is led by last year’s winner, Tim Tebow, followed by this year’s runner-up Colt McCoy. Sitting deservedly in the #3 is none other than Terrelle Pryor, with the following write-up:
The guy really is good. With Beanie Wells almost certain to be off to the NFL, Pryor will suddenly become the entire Buckeye offense. The coaching staff will let him do far more, make far more downfield passes, and will lean on him to be the nation’s newest all-around superstar.
I promised to share the Andre Ware video from Friday’s College Football Live show, and I am now doing so…
With some time off, TP can get back to concentrating on fundamentals and film study specifically for the Fiesta Bowl matchup with Texas. We all saw the improvements in his game from the bye week, after the staff worked on his footwork. He lit up the Northwestern defense. And I’m sure we can expect more upgrades in his game with a month’s worth of bowl practices. A great Fiesta Bowl showing will only increase his profile going into the off-season.
TP will enter the 2009 season as a Heisman candidate, much like Beanie Wells did this season. Hopefully his run ends a little differently than Beanie’s.
