Big Ten Fans Are Oregon Fans This Weekend
All throughout Big Ten Country, fans are lending their support to the Oregon Ducks for the weekend. And I’m sure you all know the reason. An Oregon win likely bumps Ohio State into a BCS game. The trickle-down effect is that the remaining Big Ten teams that are headed for bowls will get an upgrade.
Penn State has theebst reason for wanting Oregon State to lose to its in-state rival; they don’t want a rematch of one of their early OOC games. PSU absolutely destroyed the Beavers in September. Not only that, but a rematch would decrease the nationwide excitement for the 2009 edition of the Rose Bowl. That matchup sounds about as exciting as a ACC vs. Big East BCS game.
USC, which sent us back to the midwest with an embarrassing loss, has spent much of its season badmouthing the Big Ten as a conference a slow non-skilled players. They don’t want to face a Big Ten team in the Rose Bowl, so they want Oregon State to win, take the automatic bid to the Rose Bowl so they can “play someone worthy”. For annually being heralded as “the greatest team ever assembled”, they always seem to stumble against teams they shouldn’t. For all the flack Ohio State has taken for losing, at least it’s only to elite and highly ranked teams.
So, the Oregon Ducks (#23) travel to Corvallis to take on the Oregon State Beavers (#17) tomorrow. The latter is without the Pac 10′s leading rusher for the game. I don’t know if it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I think the Ducks — who hopefully won’t be wearing any hideous neon alternate unis — will get the job done and make the entire Big Ten conference happy.
Kickoff is at 7:07 PM (ET) and you can watch on the Versus Channel (Find out where it airs in your market). Something tells me the ratings are going to be as high as any game that has aired on the niche network. Go Ducks!
