Who Knew? OSU Destroys Sparty 45-7
OHIO STATE: 45 MICHIGAN STATE: 7
Seriously, did anyone see this coming? Well kudos to you if you did, because I sure as hell didn’t see today’s game playing out like this? This is the team we all expected to see this season. I’m glad they decided to show up. I hope they don’t go all M.I.A. between now and next Saturday because Buckeye Nation will be calling on them to duplicate today’s performance when the #3 and undefeated Penn State Nittany Lions come to town. More on that later.

Heading towards OSU's 1st score
But wow! Way to go offense! I knew that TP2 would turn it up. I knew the Purdue game frustrated and pushed him to get better. I did say that he would come out firing on all cylinders, didn’t I? I believe my exact words were: “I have no doubt that he beat himself up this week over the Purdue game. He’s focused and he’ll come out firing”. Damn it feels good to be right!
Where I was wrong was my thinking it’d be a close game. That was a good old fashioned blowout! One we haven’t seen over a ranked opponent in I don’t know how long. Everyone expects a showing like that against a team like Youngstown State. However, Michigan State was ranked #20 in the country! Sparty hasn’t lost a game by more than 1 TD since the Mark Dantonio era began. There’s our statement game! And it couldn’t have come at a better time!
Terrelle said, during his postgame media session, that he told Tressel on Friday to sit him if he couldn’t get it going in the 1st quarter. No, really. He told Tress to go ahead and pull him and put Todd in if he couldn’t get the job done. How many QBs you know who would demand something like that? If anyone was worried about TP’s ego, don’t be. He gets it.
“I love when I have to challenge myself.”
That about sums it up for TP. Whatever works I’m all for!

Making his way through the endzone
Tressel pulling TP2 wasn’t going to happen because he was doing a great job of leading this team. He finished 7-of-11 for 116 yds passing as well as 72 rushing. And did y’all see his stiff arms?! Between he and Beanie, I think we own that move this season. Throw in TP getting out there and throwing blocks for his teammates, and you’re looking at a QB everyone will love in the locker room.
I’m sure many will point to TP’s passing numbers again and say “OSU CAN’T PASS!” but peeps should really tone that down a little. We didn’t have to pass. If MSU had stopped the run and forced us to a throwing attack, that’d be one thing. That didn’t happen. They couldn’t stop Beanie or TP2. Tressel is all about pounding it down an opponent’s throat until they stop us. If it aint broke… I was encouraged to see the passing game mixed up a little. Saw several go to the FB Brandon Smith as well as Posey, Robiskie, and Hartline. Very nice.
On the other hand, all we heard about coming into this game, was Javon Ringer this or Javon Ringer that. Javon Ringer 4 Heisman!!1!11!!! Sparty even unveiled a promo website for his Heisman campaign today. Oops. The defense held Ringer to a measly 67 yards and no TDs. I told ya’ll. Our defense is for real and they’re really coming into their own this season. In addition to stopping Sparty’s run attack, they also forced turnovers, 5 in all. And from those 5 turnovers, most turned into points for Ohio State. We had no TOs today. There were a couple of close ones, but we kept possession of the ball.
Side Note: I already own a Pryor 4 Heisman domain name. No worries. When it’s time, I’m all over it! Trust!
I knew it would pretty much come down to the MSU QB since I didn’t figure the rushing game to be that big for them. After a couple of series, it was evident Hoyer couldn’t hang. Then James Laurinaitis effectively knocked him out of the game. His backup, Kirk Cousins was good. OSU obviously didn’t game plan for him and the one thing that Sparty needed to do in order to move the chains — that Hoyer couldn’t do — was pass the ball. Cousins was very efficient. He’s going to be solid for Sparty in the future. I think he completed his 1st 8 attempts. Had he started the game, maybe things would have been different. But what-if’s don’t count in football.
Watching on TV, I absolutely loved seeing all that scarlet mixed in with the green and white. I also loved hearing the O-H-I-O cheer during kickoffs. Mix in a relatively smallish crowd of just 77k and OSU’s TBDBITL making the trip and you have one of the easiest road venues that the Buckeyes have played in. I especially loved Terrelle motioning to the fans/band to “get up” when they were about to score in the 1st quarter. The stupid commentators thought he was motioning for the crowd to be quiet. These guys either need to get their eyes checked or stop calling games. It was obvious was TP2 was doing, fellas!
Great win for the Bucks! Bring on PSU!
