Pregame Postage: Purdue

Let’s take a look at Purdue, shall we? Lotta p’s in that post title, huh? Not on purpose. I’m promise!

Some are referring to this as a trap game for the Buckeyes, but I disagree. This team has refocused, after the USC butt-whooping, and isn’t going to overlook anyone, even Purdue. TP2 is looking to get better every game. Beanie wants to show the world he’s the best back in CFB. The seniors are going to take advantage of every home game they can. They only have more after today. The team will be ready for the Boilermakers.

I like how the schedule shaped up for this meeting. The Wisky game is always super physical and quite a few players are banged up and will be sidelined this week. Hopefully, having a “lesser” Big Ten foe come to town allows for some of the team to get healthy while also giving some of the youngins the opp to get on the field. We’ll need everyone on deck for the trip up to East Lansing next week.

Two key recruits will be on hand for their official visit; Ra’Shede Hageman (TE, Minnesota) and Marlon Brown (WR, Tennessee). OSU being able to point to all the youth on the field will likely help in that regard as many prospect take a good look at team’s depth charts when making their college choice. Brown is one of the top WR prospects in the country, likes OSU and Coach Tress, and he is already quite friendly with Terrelle. I would not be surprised at all if TP2 was his host for this weekend. Talk about an unfair advantage; staying with the guy would could be his QB while he is here. Hageman is a receiving TE, something OSU isn’t know for using much. He’s feeling his home state school, Minnesota, as well as Wisconsin. I don’t see him ending up in Columbus next year, but stranger things have happened!

TP’s BFF DeVier Posey moved into the 2-deep this week (due to Dane Sanzenbacher’s concussion from last week’s outing) and I hope he tosses him quite a few balls today. Not just because I think DP is gonna be a great WR for OSU, but also because Mr. Marlon Brown will be watching. Having said that, I still want to see TP2 put up some significant rushing yardage. Last week’s was greatly diminished by all those sacks. (It’s ok to throw the ball away when the passing play breaks down, Terrelle!) I don’t see that happening that much this week. Purdue is not Wisconsin.

What I want to see is a convincing win. You know, like what we had going against Minnesota before Coach Tress put the team on cruise control. Multiple sacks; because we really suck in that department. Fewer stupid penalties (I’m side eyeing you, O-line!). Improved kickoff and punt returns (This should be helped along thanks to Mo Wells and Flash Thomas getting the nod this week). Also, I don’t want to see Purdue score in garbage time and make the game look close. I want us to punch them in the mouth and run up the score. I know, I know. That will never happen with JT at the helm, but a girl can dream, can’t she?

I know that sounds like a lot, but those are definitely things the team can and should work towards. If they can’t make improvements against a team like Purdue, I don’t think it will magically appear against better opponents like MSU, Penn St., and Illinois.

Ohio State is favored by about 19 points. How about we cover the spread this time? Is that too much to ask? We should win easily unless all hell breaks loose at the ‘Shoe. Go Bucks!

TOTALLY O/T: Buckeye Corner got in a humongous shipment of #2 jerseys. So if you haven’t gotten yours yet (shame on you!), now is the time. I have a home one, but I suddenly want a road jersey too…One thing’s for sure: I’m soooo not wearing it to the game today. It’s going to be 80 degrees. Too damn hot, IMO, for a jersey. Time to bust out a tiny little tank top yo!
